Your Questions, Answered
-
I am currently offering telehealth sessions for those living in the state of California.
-
Yes, I am!
-
Before our first session, we’ll schedule a complimentary 15-minute phone call. This gives us a chance to talk about what’s bringing you or your child to therapy, as well as scheduling, fees, and any other questions you may have.
-
Your first session is all about getting to know each other and understanding what’s bringing you to therapy. We’ll talk about your goals, challenges, and any symptoms you’re experiencing. We’ll also go over the forms you’ve completed and I’ll do a thorough assessment to better learn about you and your needs. I’ll answer any questions you have along the way. Most importantly, we will begin exploring what matters to you—there’s no pressure, and you don’t need to have it all figured out.
-
Therapy sessions are typically weekly at the start of treatment and last 50 minutes. As progress is made, we can discuss adjusting the frequency of sessions—either less often or, if needed, more often. If at any point you need additional support beyond what I can provide, I will help connect you with appropriate referrals.

Life happens! I understand that things come up unexpectedly. I ask that you provide at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session. If you need to reschedule, I’m happy to find another time that week that works for you whenever possible.

It’s perfectly okay to reach out with brief questions or for scheduling help between sessions. You can text me at (562) 641-5711 or email me at katelynstarrtherapy@gmail.com. I may not be able to respond right away, but I’ll do my best to get back to you within 48 business hours (Monday–Friday, excluding weekends and holidays).
For therapy-related concerns, it’s usually best to wait until our next session so we can give the topic the attention it deserves. And if you ever find yourself in a mental health emergency, please call 911 or the California Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988. Your safety matters, and these trained professionals are available 24/7 to help.

If you or a loved one are experiencing a mental health emergency, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. You can also contact the California Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by dialing or texting 988, or use their chat via 988lifeline.org. These resources are available 24/7. If you are unsure, it’s always safest to reach out for immediate help.
